Synopsis

Earth, Wind & Fire aren't just a band anymore . . .
Used to be my greatest achievement was holding a job more than three days. Now suddenly I can shoot fireballs, chill your drink, or blow-dry your hair at fifty paces with a blink of my eye!
It all started when this crazy scientist dropped something in my Grande Mocha Latte. Of course I got wicked sick. Next morning I'm waking up with this total hottie bending over me. He tells me 1)his name's Rome Masters, 2)he's a government agent and 3)I can control the four elements with a thought.
He seems even less pleased by my (apparently irreversible) transformation than I am . . . Because now he'll have to kill me.

Gena Showalter is one of my favorite writers. Her stories are always captivating, and Playing with Fire is no exception. Belle can be hard to stand sometimes but, she did grow on me. There was never a dull moment, and Belle's comebacks are classic. She has a soft heart, but is upfront and tells it like it is. Her dad raised her alone after her mother died, but he almost worked himself into an early grave. So as soon as Belle was old enough, she made him quite his job and she's looked after him ever since. Although in the past few months she  has been unable to hold down a job longer than a week. When we meet Belle, she's working in a coffee shop. After running late, again, she convinces her boss to let her keep her job. Having a perky chest comes in handy for her and her pervert boss. Belle goes on break, when a mad man rushes into the shop and pleads for help. Everyone is shocked, especially when the CIA shows up to apprehend the man. Unbeknown to Belle, her coffee has been spiked with a special enhanced drug. It makes her very sick and after a few days she wakes up to find a seriously hot man in her room. Enter Rome Masters, alpha male extraordinaire. Rome is there to 'neutralize' Belle, in case her powers are out of control. After a while though, he realizes he can't hand her over to his boss, and they go on the run. Rome is one guy you really want to take home. He's sexy, mysterious, dominating, a little scary, and only has eyes for Belle. I think they make a great couple. He's serious and she's flippant. They both care greatly for the one's they love, and would do anything for them. Rome says he's going to help her, but has an ulterior motive. They find it hard to trust one another, but they need each other to survive. The bantering between them is funny and sweet, but never goes overboard. I like that once Rome gives his word he sticks to it.Their journey together is entertaining, and the ending made me happy. If I hadn't known their was a second part to Belle and Rome's story I would have been seriously disappointed. Playing with Fire kept me hooked from beginning to end.

I give it 41/2 Spiders out of 5.

I will post a review for Twice as Hot a little later.

----------------------------------------

Hi there, I’m just finishing up number three of the Larissa Iones demonica series. So I thought I’d review them for you all.

This series centre’s on three brothers who run an underground hospital for demons which they just happen to be, but not just any demons, they’re sexual demons called seminus demons.
The first book is called Pleasure Unbound. It’s about the oldest brother Eidolon. He is in charge of  the hospital which is his creation and baby. Things are going as well as can be expected in a demon hospital until a demon slayer is brought in along with the demon she was trying to kill You see there’s a battle going on between demons and a group of left wing fanatics who believe that all demons are evil and should be destroyed. So when Tayla wakes up and finds herself face to face with Dr Hottie in a demon hospital she’s a little freaked out.
The attraction between Tayla and Eidolon is instant and explosive to say the least, but she is the enemy with more than a few skeletons in the closet, and Eidolon is close to the end of his breeds maturation cycle which must see him mated or become a demon to be hunted and destroyed.
When Tayla begins to see that not all demons are evil as she has been led to believe her whole world turns upside down and is only made worse be the overwhelming attraction she feels for Eidolon. Which is something she has never felt for any man let alone a demon, thanks to witnessing a horrific crime against her mother by a demon no less.
Eidolon himself is torn between his desire for Tayla and his loyalty to his brothers and fellow demon kind. She seems to stir a dangerous passion and fire in him like he’s never known. So when demons start showing up missing a few body parts here and there that are being sold on the underworld black market he immediately suspects Tayla knows a lot more than she’s saying.
Torn between her loyalty to the demon slayer faction she works for and her growing feelings for Eidolon Tayla must decide whether to help Eidolon get to the bottom of this mystery which is bad news for everyone involved or betray the only man who has ever made her feel alive, and maybe he’s her key to the salvation she so desperately seeks.

Eidolon is a very straight up no nonsense kind of demon/guy and Tayla is a real wild cat, but at the same time has a very deep vulnerability and they just come together so well. You also meet quite a few supporting characters along the way who make the books even more fun and enjoyable. These books will take you on a journey that will leave you wanting more with a mix of laughter, sadness and more than a little hot under the collar, but a very good read all round.

Demonica Book 2
Grand Central Publishing
Feb 24, 2009
ISBN-10: 044640098X
ISBN-13: 978-0446400985

Pleasure is their ultimate weapon . . .
Runa Wagner never meant to fall in love with the sexy stranger who seemed to know her every deepest desire. But she couldn’t resist the unbelievable passion that burned between them, a passion that died when she discovered his betrayal and found herself forever changed. Now, determined to make Shade pay for the transformation that haunts her, Runa searches for him, only to be taken prisoner by his darkest enemy.
A Seminus demon with a love-curse that threatens him with eternal torment, Shade hoped he’d seen the last of Runa and her irresistible charm. But when he wakes up in a dank dungeon chained next to an enraged and mysteriously powerful Runa, he realizes that her effect on him is more dangerous than ever. As their captor casts a spell that bonds them as lifemates, Shade and Runa must fight for their lives and their hearts—or succumb to a madman’s evil plans.

-----------------------------------------------------

Desire Unchained is the second Demonica book and it’s Shades story. He is the middle brother and also a seminus demon. Shade works with his brothers at the demon hospital as a paramedic.

When Shade wakes and finds himself imprisoned and chained next to a woman he thought he would never see again, things just go from bad to worse. He’s been captured and imprisoned by his long thought dead psychotic brother. He’s made to endure a torturous incarceration which sees him unwilling bonded to the only women who could activate a curse Shade has had to live with for many years. Thanks to one stupid mistake, the curse could see him live out eternity as a shadow to forever know unquenchable lust and thirst, be able to see the world around him, but never to be seen or heard by anyone, should he ever fall in love. Runa met Shade when he strolled into her coffee shop and right into her heart. Not one for taking risks, Runa couldn’t resist the seductive Shade and gets swept away by his devilish charm.  Dating for a while, Runa is devastated when Shade betrays her and her life is changed forever because of it.

After narrowly escaping the clutches of Shades evil brother, Runa finds herself tied to Shade permanently by way of the bond. She must try to overcome her feelings of betrayal as she is not the woman she once was. She’s now working for a covert army group headed up by her brother and they want Runa to gather Intel on the hospital. She begins to feel uneasy as she remembers why she fell for Shade in the first place. But the more time she spends with him the more distant and secretive he becomes and the more time Shade spends with her it’s obvious to everyone that this is not going to have a happy ending. He struggles with his own oncoming change into a mature seminus demon and his old feelings for Runa resurfacing.  Hello curse!
So as the enemy begins closing in on them both and Shade must fight his desire for Runa or face an eternity of damnation. But she makes him burn like no other women ever has which makes her very desirable but also very dangerous.

I love this series they have it all, like a good movie, action, fighting, love interest and boy what an interest. Shade is smart, sarcastic has a great sense of humor, a little bit cocky at times, but hey when your this hot who wouldn’t be, but it’s ok cause Runa brings him down a peg or two. Runa herself is another great character with her tough, take no crap attitude and gives as good as she gets. I enjoy how the author tells the story for each person’s perspective so you get inside their heads as well.

Forbidden Temptations…
Serena Kelley is an archaeologist and treasure hunter—and a woman with a secret. Since she was seven, she’s been the keeper of a powerful charm that grants her health and immortality . . . as long as she stays a virgin. But Serena isn’t all that innocent. And when a dangerously handsome stranger brings her to the brink of ecstasy, she wonders if she’s finally met the one man she cannot resist.
Fatal Desires…
Wraith is a Seminus demon with a death wish. But when an old enemy poisons him, he must find Serena and persuade her to give him the only known antidote in the universe—her charm. Yet, as she begins to surrender to his seductions, and Wraith senses the cure is within his grasp, he realizes a horrible truth: he’s falling for the woman whose life he must take in order to save his own.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

O.M.G ……… I’ve just finished the third story in the Larissa lone Demonica series called Passion Unleashed. This is the younger brother Wraiths story. Man, talk about your bad boy wow ……………….. like I said, Wraith is the bad boy of the family, but if you had a psycho vampire mum who tortured you as a child then you would be too. But I digress, Wraiths story is a kind of continuation of Shades story where we find Wraith has been struck down by a deadly poison for which there appears to be no cure. When a cure is discovered they find that there is a high price to pay. The cure comes in the form of a charm which has been endowed to a woman, a human woman.
Enter Serena, she was given the monumental task of keeping the powerful charm that not only gives her health but immortality. Only so long as she remains a virgin, bad news for our boy Wraith as the only way to transfer the charm there by the cure is through sex. So with the stolen identity of a demon slayer agent and a whole lot of attitude Wraith intercepts Serena while she is on a treasure hunt to recover ancient artifacts that are being sought by a powerful enemy to be used for Armageddon. Serena is not what Wraith expects and finds himself inexplicably drawn to Serena. Sparks instantly fly between them and Serena also feels herself falling for Wraith and his devilishly smooth charm. But the one thing she longs for is the one thing she can’t have. With Wraiths primal instincts surfacing to protect her no matter what, Wraith must decide if he’s going to take the life of the women he is beginning to care for, in order to save his own life. Time grows short as the poison takes hold.
I think I like this book the best because throughout the series you really see Wraith grow as a character. And deep down, way deep down, he’s a decent man/demon/vampire. He is a really interesting character. Very complex and it’s a pleasure trying to work out whether he’ll do the right thing or not.
Serena really knocks him on his ass as she brings out his nurturing and protective side that he’s shocked to learn he even has, let along how to use it. She’s a cool character and it‘s great to read how she‘s twists Wraith in knot. Like all the female leads in the books she’s tough on the outside, but like all us hooked girls,  and you know who you are, she just needs a bit of demon loving.

Couldn’t recommend this series enough if you’re a paranormal romance junkie like me and we’re a fast growing group. So sit back and enjoy the wild ride that is the Larissa Iones Demonica Series they won’t disappoint.

Lorraine

I also enjoyed this series immensely. Her characters draw you in, and never let go. Eidolon and Tayla's story is a great introduction to the Demonica series. Shade and Runa tighten the knot and Wraith and Serena blow you out of the water. I'm waiting for Lorraine to finish Lore's story and I can't wait to see what she thinks of it.

Sin Undone is just too far away!!

Jo-Anne

I think it's a combined 5 Spiders out 5 for this series!

Mini interview with author Cynthia Roberts

Historical Romance author Cynthia Roberts was kind enough to answer some questions. I am not a big historical romance reader but I'm thinking I may have to go and hunt it down.

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

The passion was sooo inherent I just had to.  I truly think it started in the womb. I mean, ever since a Crayola was placed in my hand, I scribbled on paper.  Sadly, life just got in the way and it has taken until my more mature years (chuckle chuckle ) before it was time for me.

How long does it take you to write a book?

It's hard to gauge because I'm working on so many other projects as well.  If I was to focus on just one novel from research to finish non-stop ... probably two months.

What is your work schedule like when you're writing?

I created a play list of 70 songs ... my pure romance collection from Michael Buble', Peabo Bryson, Lionel Richie, Brian McKnight, Andy Williams, Perry Como, Tony Bennett ...   Can't write without my boys crooning to me.
I have a home office.  I just can't get into laptops for some reason and I do love the fact that they're so portable.  Even though I can type almost 100 w.p.m. once I get going, on those keyboards though, my fingers get all befuddled and I hit the wrong keys ... it's ugly.  I invested in a good ergonomic keyboard for comfort and try to devote at least 20 hours a week to my projects.

Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?

Would you believe me if I told you it just comes?  I mean sometimes I think it just flows from my finger tips.  I carry a small spiral pad in my purse, have one tucked between the seats in my car and of course, by my bedside table.  When the idea hits me, I jut down my thoughts and bada-bing bada-boom a story line is born.

What do you like to do when you're not writing?

Why read romance novels, of course **wink ** wink.  And I do … seriously.  But I also love to spend time sucking the faces of my beautiful grandchildren ages 11 – 6 months Tyler, Ayden, Connor, Nicholas & Addison.  I try and exercise every other day, take long walks when the weather allows (helps get those creative juices flowing)and cherish my closest and dearest friends.

What does your family think of your writing?

It's great when your kids are in awe of you for all the right reasons, you know?  At first I think they took it with a grain of salt .. that it was more of a hobby.  But when the book came out of print their jaws hit the floor ... as did mine.  Writing for me is such an explicit joy.  I was sooooo excited when the publishing process started.  It was like one of those first timers in your life ... you know the ones ladies ... the first kiss, getting married, the first pregnancy.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

I had this intimately beautiful conversation with someone who was blind some years back about their disability that has always stayed with me.  She told me that loosing her sight was a blessing because she learned how to see the world through her other senses, which is something the seeing world takes for granted most of the time.  It made me become more aware of sound, color, taste, texture and so many others which inevitably allowed me to be a more descriptive writer.  I’ve also learned that I can accomplish anything if I simply believe in the essence of who I am.

Wind Warrior ~ Historical Indian Romance

Wind Warrior ~ The Iroquois Series ~ Book 1

Leslie Michaels is a visionary, and only those close to her know of her special gift and the visions that come when her mind and body surrender to sleep. Fate has a way of righting many wrongs, and for Leslie it is a destiny that changes her life dramatically. But not before she is forced to flee into the wilderness to escape a murderous trapper bent on claiming her for his very own. Faith and a strong will to survive are her only companions, until she encounters Winnokin, the handsome Seneca war chief who first came to her in her dreams. Not only does he prove to be her rescuer and protector, he teaches her that tragedy can breed happiness and the passion to live and love deeply once again.

Wind Warrior plunges readers into the intimate depths of a relationship that unfolds like a live drama before their eyes while painting an insightful and intriguing portrait of Native Indian life in the 1800s. It is a story of longing, of a wanton need to survive all odds, and a love so strong it conquers human evil. Wind Warrior expresses with cunning words the simple, raw human emotions that hold readers spellbound and captivates their hearts.

Excerpt

Leslie Michaels detected the immediate transformation in the stranger’s eyes after she reached out and stroked the tips of her fingers slowly along the strong, angular curves of his chin and jaw. She looked for a change, some kind of reaction that told her he found her to be too bold or forward. However, his calm reserve gave away no emotion at all. She was pleased that he did not draw away from her touch or display any signs of displeasure. More than anything, she wanted to know what was going on in his mind. Did he find her attractive? Would he want to know her more intimately? She could not believe that those thoughts were even running through her mind. By God, she thought, I’m thinking just like one of those dance hall girls always standing outside the saloon at the settlement. She certainly was not the kind of woman to just throw herself at a man. She was generally shy and reserved, and it normally took a while before she warmed up to someone, especially a man like the one right there in front of her. And to think, she sighed, that his lips may just taste sweeter than sugar. She could feel her cheeks flush and patted them with her palms. This man certainly made her feel brazen. She wondered if he found her touch as pleasing as it was for her. When the moments passed with words unspoken between them, Leslie was afraid she truly overstepped her bounds. There must be someone else in his life, a wife or betrothed, she thought. She searched his eyes to see if disinterest reflected in their depths, but he was too difficult to read. Leslie leaned back slightly and pondered if his lack of response was more out of duty or respect and not wanting to offend her. I am such a––a fool––a stupid, crazy ninny, she chastised silently and lowered her head to hide her embarrassment. Just because I am drawn to him like a bee to honey does not mean he feels the same about me, she argued with herself. After all, we are from different cultures. Those in my world would never approve of such a union. Leslie’s heart began to pound rapidly in her chest when he moved slightly and reached out for her. She gasped faintly when he tenderly clasped her chin to raise it and gazed into her eyes. A lump caught in her throat, and she knew she could not swallow even if she tried. Joy filled her heart when she watched as his beautiful, full lips began to slowly curve into a smile. The pleasure she felt overwhelmed her and she pressed her fingers to her lips and sighed softly. She did not know his name, where he came from, or what kind of person he was. What she did know was that she felt no fear, no apprehension, in his presence. She did not hold back and drew herself up from her squatting position to kneel before him. His beautiful, amber eyes were captivating, and Leslie knew at that very moment that she could get lost in their depths for an eternity. She wanted nothing else. He clasped a hold of her tiny wrists and placed her right hand upon his shoulder. She reacted instantly and did not hold back. She needed, wanted, to touch more of him and slowly ran the flat of her palm down the length of his naked chest, feeling the strength of hard muscle beneath his light copper skin. It amazed her how such a masculine man could feel as soft as a rabbit’s pelt. Her eyes drifted again to the fullness of his lips, and she craved to have her own held captive by them. He was the most handsome man she had ever seen, and even though he was Indian, it did not sway her from wanting to share something more with him. The comfort and safety she felt was far from odd, even knowing it would prove disturbing to others. Leslie dismissed all doubt and worry from her mind. She never was a person to be affected by what others thought. And she was not about to start now. If he was an admirable man with a kind and compassionate heart, that was all she needed to know. She felt an immediate connection and shivered slightly when he reached forward to tenderly move a tendril of her hair away from her face. It seemed natural and right to rest her cheek against the palm of his hand. His thumb glided softly against her skin, and she shivered slightly as she tilted her body to nuzzle the side of her face against the warmth of his touch. He reached his other hand to cup her face and draw her nearer. Leslie could feel his breath caressing her skin, and she knew he was going to kiss her. “Come. Let us ride the wind together,” he whispered softly in her ear. Slowly his lips brushed across her cheek, barely touching skin, causing her body to tremble in response. This was the moment she hoped for, and she leaned her body closer and raised her chin to meet the pressure of his lips. His powerful arms were tender as they softly folded about her until their bodies were pressed together in a heated embrace. The loud, shrilling chatter of gray squirrels playing outside her bedroom loft window jolted Leslie from her sleep as though cold water had just been thrown upon her face, and she bolted upright, into a sitting position. “No!” she cried softly. She realized it was just a dream as she ran her palm softly across the spot where she could swear she still felt the warmth of the stranger’s touch. Her eyes scanned every corner of her room, and her heart sank from the disappointing realization that she did indeed dream of the beautiful stranger once again. She turned and watched the humorous antics that continued outside her window. Shoo––shoo, you two,” she scolded. “Did you have to choose this very moment to wake me?” she continued as she shook her head and stretched her limbs like a contented feline. For a moment she played back the memory of the dream that had haunted her over and over again for the past two months. When is this going to end? She wondered. What does it all mean? It was not just this particular incident that bewildered her. For as long as she could remember, Leslie had always been taunted by such riddles. Early in her childhood, she had learned not to question her special ability to see what would happen in the very near future through her dreams. She never feared them, because they were so very much a part of her life, and she naturally assumed every one had the same experiences in their life. That is, until she was old enough to speak and express what she saw with her parents. Leslie was nearly seven when she finally began to understand what was happening to her, what she was born with. Her mother, Olivia, had sat her down and carefully told her of the special gift they both shared. It was a guarded secret that had been passed down for five generations by the feminine line on her mother’s side. Still, the dream she had just experienced was so different and more personal than any she had before. This dream involved her emotions. She knew this particular stranger would play a major role in her future. She just did not know what, or when, or where. Each time he entered her sleep, it became more real, and her attraction for him grew stronger. She was becoming drawn to his long, dark hair and a physique, which looked as though it had been chiseled from stone. He was a mystery for now, and she was certain it was one that would be solved sooner rather than later.

Pleasure of a Dark Prince by Kresley Cole
A DANGEROUS BEAUTY
Lucia the Huntress: as mysterious as she is exquisite, she harbors secrets that threaten to destroy her—and those she loves.
AN UNCONTROLLABLE NEED
Garreth MacRieve, Prince of the Lykae: the brutal Highland warrior who burns to finally claim this maddeningly sensual creature as his own.
LEAD TO A PLEASURE SO WICKED. . . .
From the shadows, Garreth has long watched over Lucia. Now, the only way to keep the proud huntress safe from harm is to convince her to accept him as her guardian. To do this, Garreth will ruthlessly exploit Lucia’s greatest weakness—her wanton desire for him. . . .

--------------------------------------------------

This is the 9th installment of the Immortals After Dark series, Pleasure of a Dark Prince.
We really enjoyed this book as the interaction between the leads was never dull. Although Lucia is a strong female, she has a deep vulnerability, that affected her decisions when it came to Garreth. Lucia wasn't looking for a relationship as she has a dark secret that she must protect at all costs.

Garreth has a very demanding presence. But he also has a wicked sense of humor. He grabs you as soon as  he leaps across the rain soaked field. Garreth knows immediately that Lucia is his mate and will go to any lengths to posses her.

Even with Garreth's powerful personality Lucia is secretly drawn to him, but is afraid of his intenseness.
After their first encounter, Garreth knew Lucia would not be an easy seduction. Lucia finds her attraction to Garreth seriously undermines her allegiance to the Goddess that saved her life. If she gives herself over to Garreth, she feels as if her purpose would be taken from her.

Lucia heads off on a quest to procure a mystical object that could set her free. Unbeknown to her Garreth is hot on her heels. For a year Garreth has dogged her journey, protecting her along the way. Lucia, along with her sister Regan, do their best to derail his efforts. Garreth finds it extremely frustrating, as he doesn't understand her aversion to him.

From frozen mountaintops to the heat of the Amazon jungle, Garreth never backs off, although Lucia gives him plenty of reasons to. They are finally brought together on a run down river cruiser, with directions from her Ever-knowing Aunt, to finally procure the object which will gain her freedom.

Lucia is adamant she does not need any mans help, but Garreth has other ideas. She tries hard to hide her desire for Garreth, but he sees it in her eyes and uses it to his advantage.
Sailing down the Amazon River they encounter unknown forces who try violently to stop them from reaching their goal.

Lucia finally understands she may need Garreth after all. With their passion growing, Lucia finally recovers her ticket to absolution, and maybe his as well.

We recommend this book and series because it plays on your emotions. It's funny, sad, witty, sexy and a whole lot of fun. We are eagerly awaiting Ms. Cole's next addition!

We give it 4 Spiders out of 5.
